An awards event with a difference - no tables and long speeches, instead a warehouse filled with exciting lighting installations, delicious street food and a free bar. What's not to like!
The inuagural darc awards were held last night as part of London Design Festival. Dress code was creative rather than black tie and included lots of wearable lighting.
There were 12 lighting designer and supplier collaborations and together they created an array of interactive installations. My favourite was the Paul Nulty Lighting Design/Griven illuminated ball pool. The temptation to jump in proved too great...
The awards were voted for by lighting designers, so the winners really were the peoples favourite. It was great that BDP's lighting for the UK pavilion in Milan, Anoche's incredible exterior lighting for the Szczecin Philharmonic and WhiteNight Lighting's Shadow Play all scooped the top spots.
It is fantastic to see so many creative and interesting lighting projects happening worldwide, and exciting to be part of such a young and fast growing industry!
